At the heart of the Space of Light design is the deliberate manipulation of light and shadow. Much like sculptors, the designers at PiiN Interior Design have used light to shape the luminous volume of the space. By carefully constructing spatial and sequential layering, they have created a sense of flow and tranquility that permeates every corner of the residence.
The design team employed various building materials to bring their vision to life. Special paint and environmentally-friendly options were chosen to ensure a harmonious and sustainable living environment. Imported timber flooring, Italian tiles, Austrian system flooring, and marble were carefully selected to enhance the overall aesthetic and quality of the space.
The Space of Light spans an interior area of 354 square meters, providing ample room for residents to immerse themselves in the tranquil atmosphere. The design team, led by Sung Chih Hsiu and Jui Chiang, aimed to create a space that balances contemporary aesthetics with the purity of light and shadow. The result is a minimalist haven that exudes elegance and serenity.
One of the design's unique features is the unconventional approach to concealing structural elements. Instead of hiding them in the ceiling, the designers altered the beam height to extend light and shadow onto the walls. This technique adds depth and dimension to the cool-toned space, creating a visually captivating experience for the inhabitants.
The Space of Light project was completed in March 2018 in Taichung, Taiwan. Throughout the design process, the team conducted extensive research to ensure that the space fulfilled the aesthetic and spiritual needs of the occupant, a graphic designer. The infusion of large areas of white color brings a sense of relief and openness, while the timber flooring unifies the overall design, adding warmth to the play of light and shadow.
One of the main challenges faced by the design team was meeting the aesthetic taste and professionalism of the client. The concept of a gallery served as the inspiration, with furniture and artwork collections acting as visual extensions and continuations of the space. The seamless corridor design accentuates the pristine quality of the circulation scheme, creating a seamless flow throughout the residence.
The Space of Light design is a testament to the power of simplicity, serenity, and interesting spatial tension. The overall space, adorned in pure white, allows the furniture and artwork collections to take center stage, while the precise structural measurements and the interplay of light and shadow elevate the dynamic quality of the spatial experience.
